Salkantay to Machupicchu (5D / 4N)

NEW OPTION OF THE INKA TREK TO MACHUPICCHU

The mount Salkantay (6372m), whose name implies “savage”, was a Sacred Inca Mountain. As you approach this impressive mountain, you will realize the amazing trek that follows. The trek begins in the small, quiet town of Mollepata, located in the valley of the Apurimac River (90 km from Cusco). On the second day we will arrive to Soraypampa, our campsite, where we will see the imposing peaks of Humantay and Salkantay. Our highest pass named Humantay on 4800 m. permit to see the beautiful landscapes mixing mountain snow carpets and lowe valley. After the pass we`ll descend to the Vilcanota valley to Santa Teresa near to Machupicchu.

ITINERARY

The itinerary is as follows:

DAY 1: Cusco - Mollepata ( 2985m) - Soraypampa(4200m)

Early in the morning the bus pick you up in your hotel and after drive 3 hours we'll arrive to Mollepata, a small and peacefull village, there we will begin the trek. In the second hour of the trek we will see the impresive mountain called Humantay; the trail is in the border of a water chanell and tipycal forest. we will spend our first nigth in Soraypampa below the magnific Mounts of Salkantay and Humantay.(L.D.)

DAY 2: Soraypampa - Humantay pass (4800m) - Challhuay (3900m)

Today we have to walk up on a moderate steep route beside the mount Salkantay,. Seven zig zag is neccesary to do to arrive the pass, the way is clear and save, the trail offer beautiful landscapes. Continuing the trail we'll descend to the valley untill arrive to Challhuay this is a flat and nice place for camping. It is the hardest day in the trail.(B.L.D.)

DAY 3: Challhuay - Santa Teresa(1600m)

Following the trek we'll walking down to the Santa Teresa Valley located near to the Vilcanota river.. This valley is covered by typical forest of lowe valley where we can find oranges, bananas, and many tropical fruits. Five hours we'll spend today walking to our camp site in Yanatile.( B.L.D)

DAY 4: Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes

Our last day in the trekking walking down to the Vilcanota Valley to Santa Teresa and continue to Machupicchu Hidroelectric six hours walking . We have to arrive before at four in the afternoon because we have to take the local train to Aguas Calientes where we'll install in a hotel.( B.L.D)

DAY 5: Machupicchu Sanctuary full day

After a fresh bath in Aguas Calientes hot springs you will have a beautiful day visiting Machupicchu, in the afternoon we'll take the train to return to Cusco.
